It's A Beautiful Life

US Release date: December 7th 2010

24 Hour Service Station | Hacienda Records UK

The LP features a heady mix of styles spanning from alternative and dance rock to dub and Northern soul. In addition to the debut EP and LP, Freebass have also digitally released three EPs; You Don't Know This About Me - The Arthur Baker Remixes, Two Worlds Collide - The Instrumental Mixes, and the Fritz von Runte Freebass Redesign. All of these will comprise the bonus disc included with the US CD release of It's a Beautiful Life on December 7th.

"All of the songs have three basses. Mani does the low part, Andy Rourke's in the middle and I do the high bit... it works out quite well!" stated Hook in a late 2005 NME interview. The Manchester, UK based alternative rock outfit did not record until a few years later. Finding the perfect singer for such a “heavy” line-up was difficult, so they asked famous friends to contribute vocals with Tim Burgess (The Charlatans UK), Pete Wylie (The Mighty Wah!) & Howard Marks (Mr. Nice) answering the call. These tracks form their debut EP, Two Worlds Collide, which saw release in early 2010 by US indie label 24 Hour Service Station. By then the band had found their full time singer, Gary Briggs (Haven, The Strays).

Prior to the release of Freebass! full-length It's a Beautiful Life, Rourke amicably parted ways with the group and relocated to New York City and in September 2010, the band officially announced they were no longer a functioning group. "Recent events have made Freebass entirely unviable as a band, and with this in mind, it has been decided that the project should be shelved, rather than placed on hiatus while members pursue their other interests. We hope that people will enjoy the album, which concludes five years of work and treat it on its own merits. No third parties were involved or harmed in the break up."
